  • August 2 and 3: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Lunch included)
  • Potluck Dinner on August 2: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Nome, AK – Grand Hall, Northwest Campus, UAF (400 Front St, Nome, AK 99762)
Workshop Description:  Join us for a unique and enriching workshop aimed at revitalizing the Inupiaq language. This immersive experience will involve:
  • Listening to and recording fluent speakers
  • Learning the history, status, and structure of the Inupiaq language
  • Practicing simple storytelling in Inupiaq

We will focus on language revitalization methods, materials, and techniques, and on strengthening relationships between speakers, teachers, and language learners across generations.

Target Audience: This workshop is open to elders and young people of all ages from the Bering Strait region communities who are interested in reclaiming their native dialects.

  • Lead Instructor: Richard Atuk, Inupiaq elder

    • Irene Jenny Miller: “Digital Storytelling”
    • Annauk Olin, MS: “Immersion Storytelling”
Cost: There is no cost to attend the workshop.
