We find that the English alphabet and other Inupiaq writing systems based on English alphabet do not adequately match our Wales Dialect Inupiaq as we know it. We developed our own model “contrived-based-on-English” alphabet for our own work. We found that existing fonts did not match our tongue, so we developed our own model fonts. This should not alarm or deter aspiring students or teachers. Special characters are used in only a few cases.
Our purpose is to give due credit to our elders and ancestors who developed our language and dialect over a period of up to 13,000 or 15,000 years and thereby have a clue to our own history and appreciate the courage and strength of our predecessors for what they have given. If we do not document our own history, there is no one else who can.
